LEATHER CARE
Fowler Hide Supply uses Bridle leather for all our hunting gear. Bridle leather is stuffed with oils and finished with wax on both sides to attain a beautiful, finished surface. It can withstand any weather Mother Nature throws at you while on the pursuit. When kept up properly, our gear can last from generation to generation and will take on a beautiful patina while still performing its main mission.
Fowler Hide’s Quack Wax Leather Balm is designed to condition your leather gear while providing water resistant protection.
DRY IT
Hunting isn't always the driest sport, so maintaining your Fowler gear is important. From the marsh, flooded timber, mountain rain, coastal waters, snow, or the occasional drop of gear in water... leave it out to dry naturally, away from strong heat sources.
CLEAN IT
Start by always handling your leather with clean hands- oil and residue will easily transfer to leather. Every other day, briskly sweep your leather gear with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Once or twice a year, remove dirt buildup by wiping down your leather gear with a cleaner such as saddle soap, made specifically for leather. Apply in a circular motion and wipe off with a slightly damp cloth to avoid clogging the pores of the leather. After done cleaning your leather, apply our Quack Wax to nourish the leather fibers and give a barrier of water resistant protection.
CONDITION IT
Before conditioning your leather, make certain it's nice and clean. To spot-clean leather, use a bit of water and a soft-bristled brush to remove any grime, grit, or dirt. Then, use a clean, dry, soft cloth to wipe away any remaining dirt and let air dry. Massage our Quack Wax leather balm into your leather gear and use a clean cloth to gently wipe off excess.
STORE IT
Proper storage is important when caring for leather. Store leather in a space away from heat, humidity, sunlight, and dust- preferably in a fabric (not plastic!) bag and/or box.
When you care for leather properly, it will become more beautiful, rugged, and interesting over time, echoing its adventures and yours.
